It Can Start in Different Places
The most common form of intraocular cancer is called uveal metastases which is cancer that has spread to the uvea from another part of the body— meaning that it’s secondary cancer. However, an eye tumor is usually completely different because it’s a type of primary intraocular cancer which means that the tumor started in the eye.
There May Not Be Symptoms
Patients who have intraocular melanoma typically don’t have any sort of evident symptoms. However, some patients with intraocular cancer experience symptoms like the following:
- Blurred vision
- Flashes of light
- Seeing spots, floaters, or squiggly lines
- Having a dark spot on the iris
It Can Be Treated
Typically, eye tumors can be treated with a multidisciplinary team approach which involves the help of multiple types of doctors in a variety of different fields— including oculofacial plastics such as Dr. Kristin Tarbet.
